James Devine's TAPEIRE will perform two UK Shows in February:
Epsom Playhouse - 5th February 2008
Dundee Rep Theatre - 7th February 2008

James was invited to give a Rhythm Tap Workshop at PPA, London prior to his Tapeire gig at the Epsom Playhouse.
"Devine takes the stage alone to begin the night of frenzied rhythms and never lets up thereafter. While you take in his bulging calf muscles as he stomps, slides, and slams his feet across the floor, he is busily extracting music from his surface. There is no hesitation in his approach and no frenzy in his frenetic feats. He is calm and joyful inside the bombastic intricacy of his sounds."

"The sheer rhythmic invention of Devine's industrious feet set him well above the fray, and that includes "Riverdance" phenom Michael Flatley, who he left in the dust long ago."

James is currently in rehearsals in Edinburgh working on his new production, CELTIC TAP, focusing his efforts on merging global music influences with his art. Combining the urban tap rhythms of America with Irish step dancing the show taps into a world of rhythms and world music influences. From Scottish, Irish & Cape Breton to jazz, rock, funk, country and classical music, Devine's new show brings brilliant improvisation and heart stopping choreography to a new level through cultural fusion with Celtic traditions.

James is no less than one of the world’s greatest exponents of tap and holds the Guinness World Record for Fastest Tap Dancing. Even more importantly, he has the imagination and vision to subvert the dance form and funk it up big style as seen in his award winning show Tapeire.
So here he is, ready to share the great experience of setting tap against those infectious and intricate Celtic rhythms of Ireland and Scotland. The combination is incredible to watch and to hear, and if you are an experienced tap or stepdancer, you will find these workshops hugely satisfying and great fun. Of course, it must be said, this will be challenging but if you’ve read this far, then you KNOW that’s what you want!

"Guinness World Record-holder James Devine blasted the stage at NYC's New Victory Theater with his fast taps, intensely intricate rhythm, and surprisingly urban funky freshness. Devine clocks in at an astounding 38 beats per second, but his talent is not merely a matter of speed; he has fast feet and knows how to use them."

James was invited to host an all-day Sean-Nos Jig Masterclass at the prestigious Feile Chóilín Sheáin Dharach Festival in Connamara, Ireland. Click on thumnails to view larger images.
Devine's TapEire production was artistically well conceived and executed in its exposure to the natural rhythms and percussive panache of Irish dance. His academic study at the University of Limerick in electronic engineering gave him a modern command of technical enhancements like live mini-video cams that gave you a window on what the performers were actually doing on stage, without distracting you from it.
